Our current Artist of the Month is Neil Edwards. Neil makes fantastic glass objects – do come along and see his work in The Blue Room.
Where were you born? How long have you lived in the area?
I was born in Bristol and grew up in Congresbury.
What is your background?
I lived in Bristol for a few years after graduating from university. I started as an apprentice glassblower at Bristol Blue Glass in 2008 and continued working there for 5 years. I then lived in Taiwan for about 3 years before coming back to the UK to study MA glass at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
Were you ‘crafty’ as a child?
As a child I was very much into drawing but I also put together a few Airfix kits.
Do you like to have music playing while you work or silence?
It’s always good to have some music on in the studio as making glass can be very repetitive and you need to get into a rhythm. The type of music can vary though, it depends on the mood of the studio on that day.
What other jobs do you have/have you had?
I taught English part time while I was in Taiwan.
