One event on October 14, 2017 at 2:00pm
One event on February 23, 2018 at 10:30am
In this workshop you will learn how to make a beautiful & professional roman blind, to furnish your home with style! You’ll be taught to make a small, lined sample blind – on which you will learn all the techniques necessary to make different sizes at home. We’ll provide the specialist materials, and you’ll learn all the tricks of the trade to ensure a neat finish.
You’ll leave with your sample blind to use as a guide, and detailed instructions to follow at home. Sewing skill level 2 – you need to know how to thread up the machine and sew a straight(ish) line.
The workshop will last about 2 hours and you’ll need to bring;
- your sewing machine, all the cables, and the instruction manual if possible;
- fabric for the front and lining which you must cut to the following sizes before coming to the workshop:
- front – width 63cms, length 85 cms;
- lining – width 43cms, length 75cms
- co-ordinating thread.
- basic sewing equipment e.g. pins, needles, fabric scissors, tape measure (although we’ll have some spares available if you forget anything).
- On the day you will need to pay a further £5 direct to Rachel to cover the cost of the specialist materials.

About The Tutor: Rachel is a professional dressmaker, and has been teaching machine sewing and dressmaking at The Blue Room since we started our workshop programme. She has been passionate about sewing ever since she made a skirt at school aged 11. Since then she has been making beautiful clothes for all sorts of occasions, including her own wedding dress in 1981. Rachel loves working with quality fabrics and turning people’s ideas into the outfit they want for that special event. Apart from dresses, she will have a go at anything that requires the use of a sewing machine.
