Calligraphy – the art of beautiful writing
October 27 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm
One event on October 27, 2018 at 10:30am
Learn the art of beautiful writing at this 1-day calligraphy workshop. Calligraphy is an art form which has been enjoyed for centuries. It’s also a very relaxing form of craft, as well as providing an opportunity to produce work which everyone can enjoy. It can be used for poetry, stationery, art and design, and even furniture.
At this Saturday workshop beginners we will study and practise Roundhand, a basic Roman style which is suitable for beginners and also those with some experience. There will be a demonstration of lower case letters, capitals and numbers, a talk on the uses of calligraphy in the 21st century and lots of time to practise! Basic materials will be provided and Neil can advise on what items you should buy to continue with your new hobby. Anyone who has already learnt Roundhand, with Neil or elsewhere, will be able to learn an alternative style.
Neil has been teaching calligraphy for almost 30 years and currently runs courses and workshops in Burnham-on-Sea, Wells, Frome, Bristol and Marlborough. Neil had a long career in design working as a lettering and graphic designer and Art Director. He now divides his time between teaching calligraphy and counselling which he practises privately from home.
