The Blue Room began its journey as a venue for local artists and makers to sell their work without the hassle of packing and unpacking at a different craft event every weekend. Over time, it has become a destination for customers who enjoy and appreciate the uniqueness of beautiful things, locally made. At any one time, there are about 30 local people exhibiting their work in The Blue Room. So, whether you need a special gift, a little something for your friend, or a beautiful piece of art for your own home, The Blue Room’s extensive range of carefully selected stock has something for everyone and every budget.
Our extensive range of workshops and courses offer you an opportunity to explore your own creativity. Taught by local artists and makers, our focus is on sharing the pleasure of creating something for yourself. Whether it’s fused glass, jewellery, painting, sewing, knitting, crochet etc. our customers consistently rate our workshops as excellent value for money, not to mention hugely enjoyable. The workshops take place in our friendly, welcoming, multi-purpose space that doubles as studio and tea room! To complete the experience, customers enjoy complimentary coffee/tea and homemade cake. For more information on our current workshop schedule please click here.
We stock a growing range of haberdashery and knitting accessories, as well as being Nailsea’s only stockist of King Cole yarns. You can also find a range of craft kits ranging from needle felting, through cushions, stuffed animals, to lampshade making kits. Following our principles of working with other local businesses we also have a range of fat quarters and fabric remnants provided by online fabric retailer Sew Scrumptious (www.sewscrumptious.co.uk). Using the code BLUE10 you can purchase online from Sew Scrumptious, and collect your fabric from us, usually within 48 hours, saving the postage and packing charge.
The Blue Room opened in 2010, with the present owner, Sharon Brown, taking over in 2013. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, and is now a significant presence among the independent shops in Nailsea. Sharon was drawn to the local focus of The Blue Room, feeling that businesses, regardless of size, should make a contribution to their community. Along the way, she’s learnt quite a lot about arts and crafts and rediscovered her own love of sewing, knitting, and more recently cake baking! Perhaps not quite what she envisaged when starting her Business Studies degree in 2010 (at the advanced age of 49!), she can often be heard to say she wouldn’t want to be doing anything else at this stage in her life. Now supported by a small team, Sharon is enjoying the challenge of building a sustainable local business in a challenging economic environment.
